Ashleen, Joined 2015 Pan American Games gold medalists Phillip Dutton and Boyd Martin on Sunday, August 23 at Windurra Farm for Eventing with the Stars, an educational symposium about the sport of eventing. The symposium started at 10 a.m. with an introduction to the day, listed below
10:20 a.m. Session 1: Improve Your Dressage Scores
A 40-minute session featuring Boyd Martin and Grand Prix dressage rider Silva Martin with Shamwari, the highest-placed U.S. horse at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy.
11:00 a.m. Session 2: Training OTTBs for Second Careers
In part 1 of this session, watch Phillip Dutton work with Icabad Crane, the 2014 America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred Contest winner and 2008 Preakness Stakes runner, as he prepares to make his one-star debut this fall. Then in part 2, Boyd Martin will unveil his new ride Blackfoot Mystery, an OTTB Kelly Prather campaigned through the CCI3* level.
12 p.m. Session 3: Addressing Safety in the Sport, Presented by Charles Owen
Safety in eventing is a hot topic that’s important to discuss, and Boyd and Phillip will give their take as professionals in the sport while the jump ring is transformed for the next session.
12:20 p.m. Session 4: Schooling Cross Country Obstacles In Your Jump Ring
Schooling cross country in your jump ring is beneficial to eventers regardless of whether you have convenient access to a cross country course or not. Boyd and Phillip will demonstrate the exercises and types of fences they like to use at home in their own jump rings.
1 p.m. Session 5: World Class Grooming for Horses with Emma Ford
Emma Ford, Phillip Dutton’s head groom and barn manager and author of the best-selling book World-Class Grooming for Horses, will give a grooming demonstration during the lunch break to reveal tips and tricks she uses every day at True Prospect Farm. Food and drink will be available for purchase from vendors on site, or bring your own picnic lunch.
2 p.m. Session 6: Cross Country 101: Warm-up, Rider Position & Techniques
Hop on a wagon and ride out to Windurra’s extensive cross country course, where Boyd and Phillip will discusses proper cross country warm-up, riding position and techniques for riders of all levels.
3 p.m. Session 7: Answering Cross Country Questions
Still on the cross country course, you’ll get up close and personal with many of the big names in Phillip and Boyd’s barns as they demonstrate how to school different types of fences with horses ranging from green to experienced.
4 p.m. Q&A and Meet and Greet with Phillip and Boyd
At the conclusion of the day, Boyd and Phillip will be on hand to answer any questions you might have, sign autographs and take photos.
